After Apple's Siri comes Microsoft's Cortana, the digital assistant for Android, and it's now being released in a private beta version.

While the Cortana includes similar features to the Windows 10 and Windows Phone, The Verge reported that it is taking its Android support a step further with an updated app that can replace the Google Now shortcut.

Cortana is the new personal assistant from Microsoft. Accroding to the company's official website, Cortana will help you find things on your PC, manage your calendar, track packages, find files, chat with you, and tell jokes."

It is so personal that Microsoft is banking that "the more you use Cortana, the more personalized your experience will be."

Among the things you can ask of Cortana are her age, ask her to tell you a joke, or show you the latest NBA scores.

It even knows how many calories there are in a boiled egg to help your diet, and in case you need reminders, you can ask her to put in certain appointments or even change schedules if so needed.

Although the Android version is a recent release, Cortana was created by Microsoft for the Windows Phone 8.1 and is also available for Microsoft Band, Windows 10, and Xbox One.

This much-needed addition lets Microsoft take over the launch of Google Now on Android handsets.

While Cortana can take over the launch, there are still other ways to access the Google Now feature if so desired.

Microsoft is hoping for a version that most Android users will experiment with, however the update still doesn't include a "Hey Cortana" support, largely due to the limitations set that prevents Cortana from listening for commands.

For those interested in testing the Beta version, Microsoft has a sign-up process.

Microsoft said that Cortana is available only in certain countries and regions and some features may not be available everywhere.

However, even if that is the case, the search function is still usable.

The Cortana for Android version is the 1.0.0.204, and for those who are using the beta, updates are available on Google Play.

For those who are interested in being part of the beta program, more information can be found on the Microsoft website.

Are you interested to see what the fuss for Cortana is all about and does it tempt you to be part of the beta testers, or are you willing to wait out until the verdict has arrived for the software?
