The day you've waited for is finally here. The first episode of season two of The Walking Dead is now available.
To further hype the launch of the new season, several members of the writing team recently spoke to IGN about the game. Dennis Lenart, director of The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode One ("All That Remains"), Mark Darin, who wrote the episode, and Telltale Games President and Co-founder Kevin Bruner all revealed their thoughts about the new season and the changes players can expect.
According to Telltale, Clementine will be the playable character for the game, and will play very differently from Lee from the first season of content:
"The way you deal with [the world] from Lee's perspective is very different than the way you deal with it from Clementine's perspective...It was important to not make it feel like the average story of a superhuman male protagonist with the skin of a little girl on it."
This means that Clementine will deal with problems differently than Lee, and will be treated differently by characters in the game due to her age. Clementine will also have a different way of speaking and different dialog options than the previous playable character for the series. Telltale hopes that this difference in the way Clementine and Lee interact with the world helps make the second season of episodes fresh for returning players:
"You play as this little girl, but the world doesn't care. At this stage in The Walking Dead universe, the fact that you're without Lee and that you're not a very physical, super-powered person doesn't mean that the world is going to be any nicer or kinder. The other survivors and zombies in general do not care that you're a little girl...it makes you have to consider things from a different perspective."
The members of Telltale Games also hinted at the possibility that a villain may be introduced for the whole series in season two now that more time has passed chronologically and the zombie outbreak is not as fresh:
"Season 1 happened right at the beginning of the outbreak, so the way that power is created and what happens to people was still really fresh...Season 2 happens afterwards, and there's more opportunity for that...As new camps and power struggles emerge, people find new opportunity and pressures to become The Governor or people like that...Season 1 took place freshly after the world went to hell. Now people have had a million chances to lose their humanity and go down that vortex."
