The paparazzi is synonymous with hell. They’re like festering vultures that patiently circle Hollywood’s elite, waiting for the pesky opportunity to strike. Certain celebrities handle the constant bombardment of cameras and pestering reporters better than others, Kanye West being the classic example of the celebrity vs. paparazzi showdown. Some embrace the cameras, others destroy them. Some simply pay them no attention, while others, like One Direction’s Harry Styles, take the matter to court.

After several attempt to stop photographers from constantly badgering him, Styles finally brought the case to court. In turn, the British High Court judge has barred the paparazzi from pursuing Styles by car or motorcycle, placing him under surveillance and loitering or waiting within 50 meters of his home, Billboard reports.

Styles’ lawyer, David Sherborne, said that he “is not trying to prevent fans from approaching him in the street and taking photos. He remains happy to do that, as he always has.” He simply wants to put an end to the relentless harassment, which is understandable. As such an iconic figure, it would be impossible to restrain the paparazzi without some sort of court order. He played it well.

Even the world’s most revered celebrities deserve privacy. The more prominent you become in the public eye, the less privacy you have. Look at Syles. Paparazzi chased him down the street, set up a surveillance team to monitor his movements. It’s no way to live. Styles tried to ask them to back off politely, and when that failed, he went to the High Court. It’s not a shameful tactic, and hopefully an effective one. Besides, does the world really need more Harry Styles pictures?
