Apple's smartphone operating system just can't catch a break against Google.
Nielson provided its latest smartphone operating system market share figures in the United States for the three months ending in October 2013, and Google's Android platform topped the list.
According to Nielson, the Android platform accounted for 52 percent of the smartphone operating system market share. The percentage for the Android smartphone operating system represented no change from the previous data Nielson presented when the Google platform garnered 52 percent from mainly HTC, Huawei, LG, Motorola, and Samsung devices
Apple's iOS encountered a similar fate as Android as it encountered no market share percentage difference. iOS accounted for 41 percent of the smartphone operating system market share between August and October this year. The Apple platform also represented for 41 percent of the market share during the third quarter of 2013.
It was a narrow battle for third place between BlackBerry and Microsoft's Windows Phone. According to Nielson, BlackBerry placed third with 3 percentages points. Microsoft was 1 percentage point behind, representing 2 percent of the market share and tied the "other" category.
The latest smartphone operating system data by Nielson saw the smartphone penetration hit nearly 65 percent of the total mobile phone market share, which is an increase from 56 percent early this year.
