Matthew McConaughey's wife, Camila Alves, is now an official U.S. citizen.

Alves officially obtained her U.S. citizenship on Tuesday, August 4, Us Weekly reported. McConaughey quickly took to Twitter to congratulate his wife.

"Congratulations Camila on getting your U.S. citizenship today," the movie star wrote on Twitter. "Another fellow and great American."

The post was accompanied by a photo featuring McConaughey, Alves, and their three children: Levi, 7, Vida, 5, and Livingston, 2. The couple donned matching yellow outfits, with their daughter in a blue dress while the boys wore dress shirts.

Alves also took to Twitter to celebrate her naturalization. She wrote: "Happy to say I now hold an American passport! I have so much respect and appreciation for this country. #newuscitizen."

McConaughey, 45, and Alves, 33, first met in 2006 and tied the knot in 2012 in a Catholic ceremony with a Benedictine monk presiding, Daily Mail reported. Before his marriage with the Brazilian model, the "Interstellar" actor admitted that it took him long to push through with the union.

"I had to get to the point where I saw it as more than just the thing to do," he recounted, as quoted by the Us Weekly. "I wanted to really want to. You know, I didn't want it to be a destination; the fun is that we're on the adventure together. And look, some of it had to do with her putting it on me. It took her going, 'C'mon, Big Boy, Mr. Easygoing-We'll- Get-to-It-When-We-Get-to-It. Either s--t or get off the pot.'"

Speaking to Us Weekly, Alves said that she always makes it a point to visit her family in Brazil.

"My mom has 10 uncles on one side, 13 on the other side, and a ton of cousins," she told the news outlet. "We do Christmas, that for us is really big deal. We do all the cooking, the whole family comes and we don't open gifts until midnight on the 24th, so my kids love it. They love the Brazil Christmas because they get to stay up until midnight! And they love the family there. I bring the kids and Matthew there and we have so much fun."

Describing Alves, McConaughey said that his wife is a good listener and that "she sees everything for the first time," Daily Mail noted. He admitted that there was a language barrier between them when they were just starting to date, but their connection was like "poetry," the news outlet added.

Alves came to LA from Brazil when she was just fifteen. Before being a successful model for prestigious brands such as Dior and Levi's, she cleaned houses and worked as a waitress, Daily Mail noted.
