He may have not gotten the approval of Floyd Mayweather Jr. to choose him as his next opponent, but Amir Khan could still match the next best fighter.
According to the Daily Mail, Mayweather was expected to battle the stronger fighter in Khan than settle with Berto, but apparently, he chose otherwise. There were speculations that the undefeated American boxer did not include Khan in his list of possible opponents because the English boxer continued criticizing him.
It also noted that Khan has rose to the ranks in boxing with the record of 31-3 including 19 knockouts. Followers would know he has bested other great boxers like Devon Alexander and Chris Algieri.
Now, Khan is rumored to be fighting Kell Brook, with boxer Shawn Porter saying in a BoxingNews24 report that Khan will give his possible opponent a beating.
"It doesn't matter who it is, I'll always go with them over Kell Brook. Normally I put my biased opinion aside but with him, I'm not. I think Khan beats him. It'd be a good fight. If I was guaranteed the winner I'd go over there, show my face at ringside and be ready to take care of the winner," Porter added.
It is still unsure if Brook and Khan will face off next year, but the British boxer reportedly expressed his intention to fight Brook if he beats two "high caliber fighters" prior to him.
Khan's fellow British fighter Frankie Gavin seems to have a different opinion on who will do better inside the ring.
Gavin said Brook will have the edge over Khan and defeat him.
"It's the biggest fight in British boxing at the moment. They are both world level fighters in the best division in the world. If one of them doesn't turn up then they will get beat. If Khan doesn't turn up he will get knocked out, whereas if Brook doesn't turn up then he'll get beat on points," Gavin said in a SkySports report.
He added that he would bet on Brook since he is known to be an accurate fighter and Gavin experienced being defeated by this champion before.
"He picks his shots and knows where he is going to land them. He is the most accurate fighter that I've been in the ring with," he added.
Gavin does not also discount the fact that Khan has great talent especially in terms of speed. "He's the fastest I have ever been in with, but he makes mistakes and he gets caught."
Aside from Brook, Khan is also rumored to go against Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, who lost to Mayweather last May. But this fight may have to be sidelined first since Pacman is still recovering from his shoulder injury.
