Former NFL player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez is guilty of killing Odin Lloyd in 2013 and of having a sexual relationship to a tipster who revealed that a juror in his case was biased, a sheriff at the House of Correction in Massachusetts revealed.
Thomas M. Hodgson told Yahoo! Sports that there should be legal questions on how Hernadez's murder trial was handled since the former New England Patriots tight end "engaged in a non-physical relationship with a woman who claimed that a juror was biased."
"It sounds like letters, not contact. We don't have contact visits here. He was in special management, too. He was in a cell by himself, so it sounds like sexually explicit letters," Hodgson said.
Yahoo! Sports said that the tipster was only identified as "Katy" and that she claimed that a juror was untruthful during selection, raising concerns about the credibility of that person to sentence Hernandez to a lifetime in jail.
"The commonwealth has also learned that 'Katy' hasn't simply been in personal contact with the defendant. She had an ongoing sexually explicit relationship with the defendant prior to and during the trial," said lead prosecutor William McCauley.
He added that Katy and Hernandez's relationship did involve letters which were destroyed by the convicted criminal.
"In addition to the ongoing relationship between 'Katy' and the defendant, the defendant had a relationship with 'Katy's' father while they were inmates together at the Dartmouth House of Corrections," the prosecutor explained.
Physical sexual contact between the two was denied by Hodgson. He said it would have been impossible since Hernandez is in prison and is closely monitored by guards.
According to ESPN, Hernandez's lawyer James Sultan has claimed that a tipster called him a few times to tell him a about the biased juror. But Massachussetts Supreme Court Judge Susan Garsh has already said that Hernandez's lawyer cannot question the anonymous tipster under oath since it would be deemed "premature."
Hernandez is currently serving life imprisonment for a first-degree murder conviction.
In a similar development, Courant said that a judge has already approved the request of Shayanna Jenkins, Hernandez's fiancee for her to carry the former NFL player's last name.
Rhode Island judge Paula Cuculo granted Jenkins' request on Monday. She added that Hernandez's fiancee asked for the name change so she can have the similar name as her 2-year-old daughter, Avielle.
The two never got the chance to marry since the trial went full speed and resulted in Hernandez's life imprisonment.
