Countries along the Pacific are bracing themselves for the arrival of what has been dubbed as "the Earth's most powerful storm" for the year 2015.
According to USA Today, residents of Hawaii and Guam are already rushing to send supplies like food, water, generators, cots, and many others to about 1,500 people in Saipan after the small U.S. island located along the Western Pacific experienced the strength of Super Typhoon Soudelor that brought strong winds close to 170 kph or 105 mph.
There have been no recorded casualties so far as according to an ABC report posted 3 hours before the writing of this article.
Damages brought about by the typhoon include the destruction of power lines and the local power plant, forcing the island's acting governor Ralph Torres to declare a "state of major disaster and significant emergency," according to local radio station The Pacific Beat.
"There's no power anywhere on the island ... three to four weeks to restore the power. There were probably three or four hundred power poles collapsed during the storm ... many roads impassable," American Red Cross Saipan's John Hirsh told The Pacific Beat.
Super Typhoon Soudelor continues to wreak havoc in land areas located along Pacific Ocean where, in a couple of days, Taiwan, China and Japan would feel the powerful typhoon's effects.
"There is growing concern that Taiwan and the southern Ryukyu Islands will have to contend with Soudelor as early as Thursday night or Friday with impacts lasting into early next week across eastern China," AccuWeather's Eric Leister explained on Tuesday.
According to the meteorologist, Soudelor quickly intensified into a super typhoon with winds close to 290 kph or 180 mph by late Monday after raking the small U.S. territory along the north Mariana Islands.
Leister also said that because it has already reached what is equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane, the super typhoon Soudelor is now being considered by several weather forecasting agencies as the strongest storm anywhere on the planet for the year 2015.
Upon reaching the Southeast Asian territories, Soudelor is expected to weaken but would still be considered a formidable typhoon, says Weather.
The website reported that as of 11p.m. EDT on Tuesday, the super typhoon has been categorized as a Category 4 hurricane by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph and gusts reaching 185 mph.
