It's been a while since the cast of "Fantastic Four" has been confirmed, but it seems that even now, actor Michael B. Jordan still has to explain his role - because he's a black actor playing opposite a white woman.
Website BET reported that during a radio interview in Atlanta, Jordan and his co-star, Kate Mara (who plays his sister in the film) were grilled by Rock 1005 Morning Show's hosts Southside Steve (real name Steven J. Rickman) and Jason Bailey.
Bailey asked, "But you're white and you're Black. How does that happen?"
Jordan answered, "They could be raised as brother and sister. I mean, there's a whole bunch of different family dynamics that could be without the 'obvious' adoption."
This is not the first time that Jordan had to address the issue. In fact, he expressed his thoughts on the Internet's reaction about his role few months ago in an open letter via Entertainment Weekly.
In the letter, he said, "This is a family movie about four friends... who are brought together by a series of unfortunate events to create unity and a team. That's the message of the movie, if people can just allow themselves to see it." The topic is especially touchy in Hollywood, considering that plenty of celebrities -- Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, etc., -- grew up in bi-racial families.
It wasn't just the question about the interracial family that made the entire radio show awkward. It seems that the hosts were gunning to make it as uncomfortable as possible.
Rickman, speaking with Mara, said, "You're way, way hot. Why'd you cut the hair? ... Your hair was beautiful."
Mara, maintaining a sarcastic but cheerful outlook replied, "You don't like it, I can tell. This is a great interview." She did add later on, "I cut my hair for a movie I just did."
Then Rickman proceeded on pointing out that he's a toe guy and that he liked Mara's toes.
Later, Bailey discussed the awkward encounter with BuzzFeed, where he shared that he was "curious about the whole brother and sister thing." He insisted that he just wanted to know if "this hipster version" of the film will have an explanation as to the interracial family - considering that the original Johnny Storm is a blond-haired, blue eyed character in the comics.
He also defended his co-host, especially about the creepy toe thing, by saying, "Steve likes girl's toes. People should be appreciative when they get complimented."
What do you think about this awkward encounter?
