Salma Hayek gave her two cents on Donald Trump's offensive remarks against Mexican immigrants.
While promoting her latest animated film, "The Prophet," Hayek talked about Trump's comments in his candidacy speech earlier in June. According to the movie star, the Republican presidential candidate's statement is a "very simple tactic for self-promotion," Los Angeles Times reported.
"What's sad is how easily people are manipulated," Hayek said, as quoted by Los Angeles Times. "I'm not insulted because I cannot be insulted by stupidity. Everybody's entitled to have uninformed opinions. Everybody's entitled to be dumb. But I'm not dumb, so I see through the manipulation."
She continued, "We have something to learn from this. That is that the educated people or the people with great human values have to wake up, because they are under the illusion that most of this country is like them and sometimes they don't even go to vote."
The Mexican actress also said that she wasn't shocked when she heard about Trump's comments, adding that the business magnate will say anything "to attract attention and create the publicity around him," E! News reported. Hayek stressed out that she refuses to say the presidential hopeful's name because she doesn't want to give him "extra publicity," the news outlet added.
However, the 48-year-old producer gives credit to Trump for bringing discrimination and race issues to light, E! News added.
"The Prophet" is based on Khalil Gibran's book of the same name, the news outlet noted. Aside from Hayek, the film also stars the voices of Liam Neeson, Quvenzhané Wallis, John Krasinski, Alfred Molina, and Frank Langella. Eight different filmmakers directed the movie's eight segments.
"The Prophet" opens in New York and Los Angeles theaters on August 7, with a national release scheduled later in the month, E! News added.
Salma Hayek Talks Beauty Routines
Hayek has some unconventional beauty skincare secrets and fitness routines. Just recently, the gorgeous actress once again shared her secrets in looking young and beautiful.
"I embrace fat, the good fat," she said in an interview with Extra. "This is very important, and I make a bone broth that you can look up on the Internet, it's very good for all your health and it's full of collagen, when you drink it, it's like fat . . . I think people are afraid of fat, and fat is your friend."
Hayek also revealed that she uses a product from her own line to take care of her skin. The item contains a main ingredient acquired from the bark of a tree, which is also used in hospitals in Mexico to cure burn victims, Extra reported.
