When "Revolution" returns from its winter hiatus, Monroe is going to assume an unlikely role: father.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Mat Vairo will play Monroe's (David Lyons) son, Connor, in a recurring role when the series returns on Jan. 8.
"Trusting that guy into the position of father has brought out some really unexpected and interesting colors in the character," said executive producer Eric Kripke.
When the series returns, all of the characters will also band together to bring down the big bad of season two.
"The second half of the season is part of our group marshaling their forces and pulling everyone together - that includes Monroe's son and Neville - and bringing everyone together against the bad guys," Kripke said. "Meanwhile, the bad guys' plan becomes terrifyingly clear as well as the a udience getting to know really the big bad of the season, which is the president of the 'United States' - in quotes. All the chess pieces are moving into position for a final confrontation."'
There will also be the addition of a female warlord named Duncan, played by Katie Aselton. Kripke said that she "has a war clan similar to Titus, except she's not completely bird-sh- crazy."
He added that the heroes find themselves in the interesting but "uncomfortable" position of allying themselves with a war clan to bring down the Patriots.
Additionally, an '80s musician will bring some rock nostalgia to the dystopian world. Former "Poison" frontman Bret Michaels will guest-star in the second half of season two as the post-apocolyptic version of himself, TVLine reports.
The musician will sing an acoustic version of "Poison's" No. 1 hit, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."
Before the show took its winter break, viewers watched as Aaron's powers allowed him to escape imprisonment at the hands of the Patriots.
In "Everybody Says I Love You," Aaron's (Zak Orth) powers allow him to knock his captors unconscious and escape. Later, the Patriots awake and are ready to hunt down Aaron and his girlfriend. Although they all want to escape, Rachel (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) want to go back for Gene (Stephen Collins).
Monroe then saves Miles (Billy Burke) and the rest from being captured. However, Miles is ailing due to an infection from a wound, and he doesn't want to leave his family. It's clear then that Monroe has to stay to help find Aaron, or he will never know where his son is.
Meanwhile, Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) and Jason (JD Pardo) follow Roger Allenford. They are traveling on a train when it stops to pick up more passengers. Neville goes to check out who boarded, and one of the passengers turns out to be his wife--who he thought was dead--with her new significant other. Neville's wife says he thought they were dead, and got remarried to ensure her survival.
At the end of the episode, the rest of the team finds Aaron, but they end up surrounded by Patriots. Rachel and Miles get separated from the group, and as Miles is slipping into delirium, he tells Rachel how much he loves her.
Dr. Horn (Zeljko Ivanek) then finds Aaron and Cynthia, and fatally shoots Cynthia out of spite.
When "Revolution" returns, Charlie and Monroe's complicated relationship may continue to evolve. Executive producer Rockne S. O'Bannon admitted to TVLine that their odd chemistry "is really quite interesting. So there's a potential for that."
But will they ever get together? He added: "I'd hate to say that it couldn't happen, but obviously there's a lot of things stacked against it. There's a creepiness factor to it that is on the one hand creepy, and on the other hand is maybe worth exploring. But the sparks between them, that low-level spark, is definitely something we're very cognizant of."
On the next episode, called "Three Amigos," "Neville and Julia mount a new plot while Aaron quests after the nanites. Kim Raver guest stars."
"Three Amigos" airs Wednesday, Jan. 8 at at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
