For those who are already dreading the impending "Game of Thrones" end, here's good news: It seems that HBO is open to extending the series for at least another season.

At the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Beverly Hills Thursday, HBO President Michael Lombardo said,  "Seven and out was never in the conversation. The question is how much beyond seven are we going to do. I think the creators feel like there are maybe two more seasons after 6."

There could be more than eight seasons, if he can talk the creators into it. He shared, "I'd love to change their minds, but that's what they're thinking right now."

The New York Daily News reported that with this year's season 5, "Game of Thrones" has gathered around 20 million viewers per episode. It's no wonder HBO doesn't want it to end yet.

If the series will really wrap up by season 8, there are other options for HBO to go to, such as a prequel.

Lombardo said he could consider it, but it ultimately depends on creators David Benioff and DB Weiss.

The HBO executive shared, "I would be open to anything Dan and David want to do.It really would depend fully on what they want to do.... There's enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel. We haven't had any conversations."

However, "Game of Thrones" is not without controversies. This season has been particularly heavy with violence, something that Lombardo was quick to defend.

He said, "Violence has been one of its threads from the beginning. I don't think any showrunners are more conscious of not stepping over the line, where they feel the line is. I fully support them creatively."

And while most of the fans of the series would love for the show to extend past season 7 or 8, there is one big question that they are eager to have answered: Is Kit Harington's Jon Snow really dead?

Lombardo said, "Dead is dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Yes. Everything I've seen and heard and read, Jon Snow is indeed dead."

But while the bastard of Winterfell may have died, The Los Angeles Times said that there are other ways for his return to the series, as other characters have been resurrected in one form or another (case in point: Jason Momoa's Khal Drogo).

What do you think about the information that Lombardo shared at the Television Critics press tour?
