"Nashville" fans are still in the dark as to who died on the mid-season finale of the country primetime soap.

On the latest episode, "Tomorrow Never Comes," two characters may have met their demise.

The first may have been Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), who takes an assassin's bullet in front of Rayna (Connie Britton) that was intended for Teddy (Eric Close). The shot is shown before the screen fades to black, which makes it unclear if Peggy died from the bullet or ended up in a coma.

Will (Chris Carmack) is the other character whose future is uncertain. In the episode, Will, who is in the closet, is seen staring longingly at his crush, Brent, and is completely oblivious to his public "girlfriend" Layla (Aubrey Peeples) undressing before him.

At Teddy's Music City Music Festival, Will gets romantic glances from Layla and Brent while performing Gunnar's (Sam Palladio) song, "What if I Was Willing." He sings the lyric "if you wanted someone to love you right" while making eyes at Brent. That night, the two give in to passion and sleep together.

Yet, Brent then leaves, and a dejected and confused Will goes to the railroad tracks in an apparent suicide attempt. The screen then fades to black as he faces an oncoming train.

As for the other characters, Jeff Fordham (Olive Hudson) is irate when Rayna tells him that she will take him up on his offer and buy herself and Highway 65 off Edgehill for $20 million.

Jeff also threatens to destroy Layla for leaking bad press about Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) to TMZ. What was supposed to be Juliette's stellar set at the festival is ruined by people heckling "tramp" and "skank" at her during her performance. At first she freezes, so Avery (Jonathan Jackson) comes to her rescue.

The duo recovers by performing a steamy duet. After the performance, Juliette rushes to Avery to confess her love to him, until Scarlett (Clare Bowen) walks in, who had just had sex with Avery.

As for Deacon (Chip Esten), he and Gunnar perform in a festival-adjacent parking lot, which is a success. Their impromptu gig's success inspires Deacon to finally pursue his dream music career.

When "Nashville" returns in January, Will's whereabouts are unknown, and Teddy will try to cope after Peggy's shooting. Juliette will continue to face public ridicule from angry fans, and Kelly Clarkson will guest star to perform a song that Scarlett and Gunnar wrote together.

Watch the promo below for "I'll Keep Climbing," which airs Jan. 15 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
