The World of Warcraft (WoW) Sixth Expansion is set to be revealed next week in a special event in Cologne, Germany.
According to Battle.net, the unveiling of the new chapter will start at 9 a.m. on Thursday (Aug. 9) and to be followed by a World of Warcraft developer chat two days after.
NZGamer said that this is newest expansion of WoW, which was released in 2004, follows instalments like The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria and Warlords of Draenor.
The upcoming release is also believed to be the first since the game instalment introduced its Tokens system, which allows players to pay for their game time with Gold instead of real money.
IGN reported that game developer Blizzard has yet to name the next game instalment, but it has already filed a trademark for the name "Eye of Azshara" at the end of last year.
According to GameSpot, Blizzaed CEO Mike Morhaime said that updates in their games are very important.
"We view expansions as a huge opportunity to do that," he said, adding that the company has supported the game with "free updates."
These free updates reportedly help gamers go back to the game, especially that subscription has declined for the past year.
"By Blizzard's latest count, World of Warcraft had 7.1 million subscribers, down 2.9 million from the 10 million subscribers it had at the end of 2014. Although subscriber numbers are falling, World of Warcraft remains the top subscription-based MMO in the world," added Game Spot.
Some of the expected changes were revealed in an MMO Champion report.
"The big focus of the expansion will be on night elves and trolls, with Malfurion and Vol'jin being the main heroes. This is Vol'jin's big opportunity to prove himself as the warchief of the Horde."
It added that the the game will focus more on the loyalty of Vol'jin to the Horde even with the offer of begin part of a new empire.
As for a new class, MMO Champion said it will be a ranged character which utilizes bows, crossbows and guns.
"The expansion will have 8 zones - Valarian Depths, Zandalar, Kul Tiras, Kezan, Tel'Abim, Plunder Isle, The Rift and Broken Isles," added the same report. It said that the Valarian Depths and Zalandar will be the starting zones.
Gamers can't seem to wait for next week when they will officially experience playing the newest World of Warcraft game.
