A new Samsung Galaxy mobile device is expected to be unveiled at the tech giant's upcoming "Unpacked" event in New York City.
Samsung's invitation to the press indicated that the event will take place on August 13 at 11 AM ET. According to Mashable, the minimalist invite, which features a number of waves in a rectangular outline, could be hinting at the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
"The way the waves taper off in the invitation are reminiscent of the curved edges of the S6 Edge, suggesting we'll soon see a larger version," Mashable wrote. There's a possibility that the company will also release the Galaxy Note 5 in the occasion, as well as new Gear-branded smartwatches.
Listed below are the rumored specs and features of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Note that these are all unconfirmed at the moment and Samsung is yet to issue an official word.
Design & Display
The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is said to be a larger version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, Mashable wrote. The device is rumored to come in at a 5.7-inch display, with curved screen areas that run both of its sides. In addition, the handset is expected to have a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution (QuadHD).
Specs
The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is rumored to run using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, with a 3,000 milliamp-hour battery providing its juice, Mashable noted.
Aside from these, the mobile device is said to have 32GB of internal storage and a 16-megapixel primary camera, the news outlet added. Phone Arena reported that the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will have 4GB of RAM.
Android Authority describes the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as the product which will mark Samsung's first "mainstream flagship phablet."
The tech giant's Note series was a huge hit to those users who value productivity. When the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus rolls out, the device could provide users a more accessible smartphone "without the extra bells and whistles (and at times, bulk)" of the Note series, Android Authority explained.
An estimated price for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is yet to be had.
Samsung Not Ready to Challenge Apple
A report from Forbes said that Samsung's August launch for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 means that the company is not ready to compete against Apple's September release for its iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
"It places Apple in the role of the aggressor, the stronger competitor, and the company that can dictate the rules to the rest of the smartphone ecosystem. That is not something that the South Korean company should be giving ground on," Forbes reported.
