Michael Peña has several acting credits in various films, the latest of which being Marvel's Paul Rudd-starrer, "Ant-Man." In his latest horror movie offering, "The Vatican Tapes," Peña opened up about his new role that is wildly different from the ones he portrayed before.

Lionsgate's "The Vatican Tapes" centers on Father Lozano (Peña), a priest who encounters an ancient, malevolent force upon exorcising a possessed young woman, Movie Insider wrote. In an interview, Peña revealed that shooting the movie was accompanied with unusual occurrences.

"We were shooting in a mental ward and there were always these little noises," the 39-year-old actor revealed, as quoted by Fox News Latino. "We had no idea what they were."

"The Vatican Tapes" marks as the first horror film made by Peña, the news outlet noted. According to him, one of the reasons why he took on the role is because the horror genre resonates well with the Latino audience. He explained that Jennifer Lawrence's thriller movie, 2012's "The House at the End of the Street," attracted many Latino moviegoers.

"[It] inspired me to look for a cool horror movie," Peña said, as reported by Fox News Latino. "This, I think, was perfect because a lot of Latinos grew up Catholic or in very religious households and I think that's why we gravitate toward this kind of movie."

"The Vatican Tales" was directed by Mark Neveldine, from a screenplay penned by Christopher Borrelli and Chris Morgan. Also starring are Olivia Taylor Dudley, Djimon Hounsou, Dougray Scott, Kathleen Robertson, and Peter Andersson, Movie Insider listed. Watch the flick's trailer below.

Despite his several notable film projects, such as 2004's "Crash" and last year's "Frontera" and "Fury," Peña thinks that he hasn't "made it yet" in Hollywood, which is a challenging and rough industry, Fox News Latino reported.

"It's always a struggle you have to fight for all these different roles," the actor told the news outlet.

As for his comedic role in "Ant-Man" as Luis, Peña revealed that his portrayal of the character was based on a real person.

"It's somebody that I grew up with. [He's] kind of a criminal, kind of not a criminal. OK, a criminal," he recounted, as quoted by Los Angeles Times. "He was in and out of jail and stuff [and] still slightly annoying, but at the same time lovable, you know, and I tried to play that. I don't know if I pulled it off or not."

Peña also thinks "Ant-Man" is "a great tone for kids" and is not "super dark," Fox News Latino reported.
