Sony has published a new blog post thanking fans for making the launch of the PlayStation 4 so successful as well as teasing fans that the company will have some major announcements for the next E3 that will take place in June 2014.
The post was written by Senior Vice President, of PlayStation Brand Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America Guy Longworth. Longworth is quick to acknowledge that it is the PlayStation fans that helped the company set records and make the launch of the PlayStation 4 the success that it was:
"It's now clear that the launch of PS4 is one for the record books. This afternoon we learned from market research firm NPD Group that PS4 was the top-selling console for November and PlayStation was #1 in sales overall for home consoles. This news comes on the heels of yesterday's confirmation that the PS4 launch is the biggest ever in the history of game consoles. Ever! And it's all thanks to you."
The executive also discussed how quickly PlayStation 4 users have taken to using the sharing and streaming services on the console and had some interesting figures to reveal to fans:
"We're also seeing gamers embrace the social capabilities of PS4 at a record pace. Earlier this week, we announced that hundreds of thousands of gamers are using the PS4's integrated streaming capabilities. Nearly 800,000 gameplay broadcasts and more than 7.1 million spectate sessions have streamed through Twitch and Ustream, totaling more than 20 million minutes of live gameplay."
When Longworth started responding to some user comments, he revealed that he personally is excited about the projects Sony is working on and pointed to the 2014 E3 in particular as something he is looking forward to:
"Thanks... we're working on them and have some epic stuff still underwraps... can't wait for E3 now!"
It will be interesting to see what sort of games or features Sony will reveal at E3 2014. One possibility is a proper trailer or gameplay video for the recently announced Uncharted game for the console. Another could be a new God of War game for the console, as Sony has confirmed Sony Santa Monica is working on a game for the new console. The Gaikai cloud streaming service could also revealed at the next E3, or Sony could reveal what games they will be putting on the service.
