It seems that Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 is ready to go head to head with the Apple MacBook Pro. Reports from DigiTimes noted that Microsoft has already placed a large order of Samsung Electronics 256GB solid state drive (SSD) to be used for the upcoming Surface tablet, with shipments said to begin in September, and the tablets set to become available by October.

According to the outlet, the new Surface Pro tablet will have the same form factor, bezel size, and 12-inch display as the Surface Pro 3, but will be updated with the new Intel Core M-Based Skylake processor and Windows 10.

What could put gadget enthusiasts off, however, is the price tag attached to the Surface Pro 4, which, at the moment, is a bit steep at around $799, as noted by Tech Times.

Meanwhile, Venture Capital Post noted that the 2016 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are also expected to make an appearance by the last quarter of this year, which suggests another October release. Gotta Be Mobile also believes in the October release, and advices techies to wait out the release of the 2016 version, saying, that the new thinner design and the all-in-one USB-C port will be the future of computers. The outlet believes that the new MacBook Pro could sport a Thunderbolt port as well.

VC Post also noted that the MacBook Air 2016 may come in several varieties, the most basic being the one with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage space. The mid-range model is thought to feature the same 4GB RAM but with 256 GB storage, while the high-end version will come with a Core i7 processor, 516 GB storage, and 8GB RAM capacity.

It may also come in different sizes, a 13-inch variant, and another at 15 inches. There is no price tag attached to the 2016 models as of the moment, however, as reported by VC Post, previous models are being sold at discounted prices, including the 15-inch MacBook Pro that is currently up for grabs for only $2,699 from its original $3,199 price tag.

The specs and features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and MacBook Pro 2016 is not yet final, and right now, should only be taken with a grain of salt, however, fans of Microsoft's tablest are said to be hoping for a larger screen size that can compete with the iPad Pro (which is also not confirmed at the moment).

Until both companies confirm the specs and features for their products, it should be reminded that these updates are rumors as of the moment, and before you plan on splurging your money on them, it is best to wait what happens at the respective launches in October, if rumors are correct.

Which gadget do you think appeals more to you, though?
