"Captain America: Civil War" cast member Martin Freeman give hints about his mystery character in the upcoming star-studded Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase III-starter.

As Phase II comes to a close with the release of the Paul Rudd-starrer "Ant-Man," Marvel is gearing up for the new leg of the MCU, which would be launched by the much awaited sequel to the blockbuster hit "Captain America."

According to a most recent update from IMDB, Chris Evans is joined by some of Hollywood's and MCU's finest in the third film from the franchise, including Robert Downey Jr. as the Iron Man, Scarett Johansson as the Black Widow, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlett Witch.

Many other actors who have played Marvel superheroes in the MCU films are all reprising their former roles.

New additions to the cast include Paul Bettany as Vision, Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther, and several others who play less critical roles in the film due in theaters on May 6, 2016.

While Marvel already revealed most of the cast members and their roles, HitFix noticed that a minor character played by "Sherlocke" star Martin Freeman has remained a mystery.

"The 'Sherlock' actor is definitely on board, but in what capacity remains shrouded in Marvel mystery," the report read.

What is more interesting is that Freeman himself gave hints about the "gray" character he would be playing in "Civil War."

"He works for the American government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes and certain agencies that help to...tame...the superheroes power," Freeman told  Italian outlet BadTaste in an interview. "You're not quite sure which side he's on. It looks a little bit like he's playing one game when actually he's playing another."

He further explained that his character would be someone 'ambiguous' because he was written in the plot as neither good nor bad.

"I like that area that isn't black or white, I like the grays, because I think there's just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line," the 43-year-old actor added.

According to HitFix, though Freeman's role in the film is entirely new, which was specifically written for "Civil War." There is one similar character in Marvel Comic history that fits the bill who is named Henry Peter Gyrich.

Gyrich is a CIA or NSA agent who doubles as a liaison for the government to the Avengers.

Aside from being drawn with uncanny similarity with Freeman, Gyrich fits the actor's description of his character particularly because he is also an agent for the government agency responsible for keeping the Avengers in check, known as the Commission of Superhuman Activities or the CSA.

These, however, are mere speculations and have not been confirmed by Marvel.
