Along with its introduction of a great list of devices like a television and action camera, Chinese electronics company, Xiaomi, has launched a Smart Shoe in collaboration with sports brand Li-Ning.
The footwear dubbed as Li-Ning Smart Shoes will feature Xiaomi supplied sensors as per NDTV Gadgets. It added that the shoes will come in two variants: the CNY 199, which is expected to cost $31, and the CNY 399, which is believed to be pegged at $62.
Both shoes will be out in the Chinese market starting Monday.
Tech 2 notes that Li-Ning is a local sports brand in China, which has designed the shoes together with Xiaomi, equipping it with sensors that can register the walks and runs of individuals. GizmoChina adds that Li-Ning is a famous shoemaker in the country and a great brand for other sports equipment with it endorsing several teams and athletes.
"The data is relayed to the pedometer and calorie counter app on your phone. It connects to the phone via Bluetooth," Tech 2 added.
In discussing its features, NDTV Gadgets said the Smart Shoes are waterproof, sweat-proof and has the ability to withstand pressure while its user is on the run.
"The shoes pack a Bluetooth chip which will allow them to connect with a paired smartphone, and are also said to feature military-grade motion sensors. The Li-Ning Smart shoes can record steps and calories among others," added NDTV Gadgets.
GizmoChina also noted that the built-in sensors can last for more than a year so users can expect that these will function as long as their shoes are usable.
The shoes can also reportedly record other fitness-related activities with its normal look.
"All the magic happens inside the sole where a module with sensor records and transmits all the data," noted GizmoChina.
The partnership of Xiaomi and Li-Ning for the creation of this Smart Shoes is seen by NDTV Gadgets as a move to compete with Nike's iPod-friendly shoes and the Adidas' miCoach Speed Cell.
Last March, the electronics company has already hinted that they are working on a smart footwear with Li-Ning.
"We have chosen to collaborate with the Mi brand because of Huami Technology's strength in 'smart' wearable products. We hope to use this opportunity to provide professional 'smart' running shoes to running enthusiasts in China at an affordable price," an earlier statement from Li-Ning read, as quoted by NDTV Gadgets.
This collaboration is something that fitness enthusiasts are looking forward to, especially with the creation of an affordable but useful footwear.
