The trailer for Alejandro G. Iñárritu's "The Revenant" is finally here.

The film, which is based on a true story, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Hugh Glass, "a 19th century frontiersman who was mauled by a bear and left for dead by his expedition group," The Verge reported.

Check out the trailer below.

The sneak peek also features Tom Hardy as Glass' confidant-turned-enemy John Fitzgerald. The titular character vows to exact revenge on his team for betrayal, robbing him, and leaving him for death. Glass also fought a bear and battled difficult winter conditions in his 200-mile journey, Variety wrote.

Also starring in the upcoming film are Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter, the news outlet added.

Inarritu and Mark L. Smith penned the movie's screenplay, which is based on Michael Punke's 2002 novel with the same name, The Verge wrote. "The Revenant" has been gaining plenty of Oscar buzz, and with four Oscar wins under his belt for "Birdman," Inarritu can help DiCaprio finally nab an award from the Academy, Variety pointed out.

"The Revenant" was shot entirely using only natural light. According to Iñárritu, he and his cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki ("Gravity"), chose to film scenes with "only natural light in remote locations left untouched by mankind" and to feature nature "in as pure a state as possible," Entertainment Weekly reported.

Iñárritu and his team shot scenes in remote and wild locations in Alberta, Canada. Filming in natural light proves to be complicated because of the short time of daylight hours to work with. The winter season is challenging for the team as well, Indie Wire wrote. According to Latino Review, the limitations placed on shooting with the use of natural light made the production team to extend filming through April.

"The Revenant" will debut in theaters on this year's Christmas Day.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu Honored at LACMA's Art + Film Gala

Iñárritu will be honored for his filmmaking achievements at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's fifth Art + Film Gala on Nov. 7, a separate report from Variety noted.

"In the last two decades, Inarritu has displayed a daring and nimble vision for films including 'Birdman' and 'Babel'; his work has rightly garnered the highest of critical acclaim," said Michael Govan, LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg director, as quoted by the news outlet.

Light and space artist James Turrell will be honored at the LACMA's Art + Film Gala as well, Variety added. DiCaprio, alongside LACMA trustee Eva Chow, is co-chairing the annual fundraiser presented by Gucci.
