Despite its popularity, the Google Nexus 5 isn't a perfect smartphone, a fact which Google and LG acknowledge. Following initial complaints, the Nexus 5 has now received a slight redesign affecting newer units.

The changes aren't drastic, and most users won't be able to tell the difference, but they're still welcome steps in the right direction. The redesigned Nexus 5 sports slightly bigger speaker grills on the bottom of the device, and the holes have been enlarged after many reviewers complained that the Nexus 5's audio output is a bit muzzled. Buttons and slots all around have also been tightened up so that they don't wobble around as much, giving the overall unit a more solid feel.

Although neither Google nor LG have made an announcement regarding the Nexus 5's redesign, the changes were spotted by XDA Developer forum user shinral, who reported receiving a slightly different Nexus 5 after sending in his original unit due to several defects.

Google and LG performed a similar redesign on 2012's Nexus 4 smartphone, adding special rubber nubs to the back after the backplate's glass was found to crack too easily.

The Google Nexus 5 is currently available for purchase in black or white through the Google Play store at $349 for the 16GB model or $399 for the 32GB variant. The smartphone sports a 4.95-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone comes with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-loaded.
