Apple's iOS 9 is set to roll out this fall, but the tech giant already released a public beta for overeager consumers who can't wait to get their hands on the latest version.
The new OS update, which is compatible with newer iPhones and iPads, boasts new features and updates to the already existing ones of the operating system. For instructions on how to download and install the iOS 9 public beta, check out TechRadar.
Listed below are the most notable features of iOS 9.
Upgraded Siri
Siri, Apple's intelligent personal assistant, has a new update called "Siri Suggestions" in iOS 9.
As per Business Insider, Siri Suggestions predicts who the user wants to talk to and which apps the user prefers to use, among others. Basically, Siri Suggestions is "a screen that shows you the apps you used most recently and the people you've texted or called most recently," the news outlet added.
The new feature also displays news headlines, suggestions for locations to visit, and iOS 9's upgraded search engine, Business Insider listed. The new updated Search bar in the OS is capable of pulling up apps on your phone and in the App Store, as well as content from third-party apps and information stored on your device.
Aside from this, the brand-new Search bar can answer queries without opening a Web browser, the news outlet noted.
Keyboard Changes
A small but significant update was added to the on-screen keyboard as well.
According to Daily Mail, the entire range of letters in the keyboard will now appear in upper case when the Shift key is pressed. When Shift is off, all letters will be displayed in lower case.
Back then, only a slight change in color indicated the letter's case change, which wasn't that obvious and made users having to delete a word and typing it again. The issue was one of the huge frustrations of iPhone and iPad users before, Daily Mail wrote.
Multitasking Options
Apple's iOS 9 will also appeal for users who enjoy multitasking. The new OS update features the Slide Over and Split View options on iPad devices.
The Slide Over is already available on the iPad Air 2, the original iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, and iPad Mini 3, Ars Technica listed. The feature lets users launch a second app without leaving the one they're currently using.
The Split View, on the other hand, is available exclusively on the iPad Air 2. The feature lets customers use two apps side-by-side and simultaneously, Ars Technica wrote. Both Slide Over and Split View options allow users to choose different apps by sliding down the top of the pane.
