Novak Djokovic was successful in bagging the French Open title against worthy competitor and fellow tennis star Roger Federer on Sunday.

Despite Federer's obvious hunger for a title he has been wanting to claim since 2012, Djokovic still proved that he is the better player for the competition despite Federer having a slight advantage, Yahoo Sports said.

The same report said that both players made 37 points for the first set and 51 points in the second set with strong attempts from both sides during the tiebreaks.

But the 28-year-old Serb proved his caliber to the entire world winning the final game 7-6 (7-1) 6-7 (10-12) 6-4 6-3.

Some of the points for Djokovic reportedly came from double faults committed by Federer. "His service game, which had carried him over Andy Murray in the semifinals, was just not as strong on Sunday," added Yahoo Sports.

In a BBC report, Djokovic said it has always been a challenge going against Federer.

"A lot of players of my generation have looked up to him and followed his lead. He makes you push your limits, work hard and win every single point," he added.

Commenting on the great support of the crowd to Federer during the game Djokovic said he was used to that kind of scenario and that he did not mind anymore.

"More or less anywhere I play against Roger, it's the same. It's just like that. I have to work and earn (the) majority of the support maybe one day," he told CNN.

Their very close fight is not the first in history. Last year, Djokovic also outclassed Federer at Wimbledon.

On his Twitter account, the French Open champion thanked all those who supported him.

"Thank you to my team, to my #NoleFam and to all the people cheering and supporting me here @Wimbledon. Ideeemoooo!" Djokovic tweeted.

This is reportedly the Serb's third victory at the All England Club, adding to his list of victories including the US Open and five Australian Open titles.

For his part, Federer recognized that Djokovic was worthy of his victory.

"I had my chances in the first set. I got lucky to win the second, had chances in the third," Federer told the BBC in the same report. "But he was better on the bigger points. He was rock solid, I didn't play badly myself. That's how it goes."

His coach, Stefan Edberg, told CNN that the match was pretty intense.

"In the end it's very little that makes a difference. It would have helped tremendously to get the first set, in which he had some chances," Edberg said.
