When Thomas, Teresa, and the rest of the Gladers finally made their way out of the Maze, they thought they were finally safe. Little did they know that their troubles have just begun.

In an interview with Hollywire, actor Dylan O'Brien (who plays lead role Thomas) shared, "For audience members, you would think that out of the maze is the end of the story and it's not. And I think what my character was surprised by is how detrimental that could end up being."

He also teased, "Actually, getting out may have been the worst decision. They are basically played right into their (WICKED) hands. They are essentially in an entire new trial but now they're out in the world. No walls. There's nothing to protect them. It's just survival."

"The Scorch Trials" picks up with the Gladers waking up in a safe haven, looked after the paramilitary group known as WCKD, which has been creating sanctuaries for people affected by the flare. However, it did not take long before it was revealed that the Gladers were subject to another test: cross The Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and they will have two weeks to reach safety a hundred miles away, no rules.

The film's returning director Wes Ball spoke with Entertainment Weekly and said about the lead, "His character is responsible for taking the kids and fleeing the maze at great cost. A lot of people died, some of them his best friends. And he might be marching these kids again into dangerous situations. So Thomas has a lot of guilt resting on his shoulders."

The first trailer, which was released last month, increased fan anticipation of what's in store for Thomas, Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Minho (Ki Hong Lee) and the rest of the Gladers.

The second trailer is yet to be released, but according to The Projection List, there is a possibility that it may be released on July 24, with the release of the movie adaptation for John Green's "Paper Towns".

Many of the cast will be returning to reprise their roles, but as noted by Venture Capital Post, new characters will also be introduced, including "Game of Thrones" star Nathalie Emmnuel, with Aiden Gillen as the main villain, and newcomer Lora Martinez-Cunningham as Thomas' mother.

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" will arrive in theaters on September 18, 2015.
