Microsoft has been providing consumers with a great alternative to the massively successful Apple iPad, and its latest installment, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, is set to be released later in the year. While there is little update regarding the Surface Pro 4, Android Origin managed to nab a few rumors about the much-awaited gadget from Microsoft. Here are the things we know about it so far:

1) It is said to launch by October as Microsoft is still waiting for Intel to finalize the next generation Core i5 and i7 Skylake-based processors, explaining why the company moved the release date of its tabs, which are usually launched in June.

However, a report from Business Korea also said that it could be delayed for next year, as a result of the Microsoft and Samsung agreement that the Korean tech giant will deliver around 20 million units of SSDs for Microsoft.

2) It will come in two sizes: 12-inch and 14-inch displays with a pixel density slightly about 200 PPI for both versions, making the resolution the same as that of the Surface Pro 3.

3) The Surface Pro 4 is expected to have a quad core Intel Core i5 or i7 Skylake processor, Intel HF Graphics, and at least 4GB RAM. The internal SSD is said to be available from 128GB and can be extended to a whooping 1TB. It is also assumed that a keyboard and surface pen will go with the tablet.

On the other side of the fence is the MacBook Air 2016, which like the Surface Pro 4, is elusive to updates. However, it is rumored that the device is likely to be announced by Apple in October, with a March 2016 date attached. Here are the things that we know about the 2016 MacBook:

1) Like the Surface Pro 4, its delay is caused primarily by the Intel Skylake processor. Master Herald reported that the Skylake Processors offer significantly better performance and power compared to the Broadwell-based Core M currently used by the 2015 MacBook Air.

2) It will have a thinner design, said Venture Capital Post, with HD Retina Display. It may have a USB-C port and could feature wireless charging. However, Master Herald notes that to bring the cost down, it may have a slightly higher resolution than the previous model, but won't be the 2304x1440-pixel resolution it was first announced to use.

Microsoft and Apple are going head to head with the Surface Pro 4 and MacBook Air 2016, considering that the release of both gadgets are very near each other. With the same processor and close competition in its specs and features, which one would you wait out to buy when they finally arrive on the shelves?

If it all boils down to the price, you might have to wait awhile as no updates on that has been announced yet.
