The last time viewers saw "The Flash," Barry Allen was speeding up to a black hole that's threatening to eat up Central City, but apparently, according to Screen Crush, he may not have been the one to save the world, as the second season's premiere is entitled "The Man Who Saved Central City."

So if Barry Allen is not going to be the one to save Central City, does that mean that a new character will be involved?

Probably. Cinema Blend reported that "The Flash" is going to include a few new players in the mix, and all of them will play important roles in Barry Allen's story.

Grant Gustin, who plays the titular superhero, told TV Line, "There are a lot of new characters coming in, not just the ones that have been leaked online. And they all will challenge relationships, in good and bad ways."

The new characters include Wendy, Barry's new love interest, who has been described as "spinky, fun, and funny" and who also happens to be a science whiz.

Considering that Eddie Thawne died in the first season's finale, Joe will be getting a new partner, and Wendy could be in the running, but there's no confirmation regarding that as of late.

Speaking of Eddie's death, actor Rick Cosnett will not be returning for season 2 as a main cast member, although there could be a possibility that his untimely death is not going to be the last fans will see of him.

On the other hand, Tom Cavanaugh, who plays the role of the fake Harrison Wells / Eobard Thawne, will also be returning, so there's definitely more scenes with the Reverse Flash that fans can expect.

During a Q&A with Grant Gustin at The Saturn Awards, the actor shared other tidbits that fans can expect next season, with Latin Post reporting that he mentioned the appearance of a new main villain he described as "A really cool 'big bad' one that's going to be revealed kind of immediately."

He will also be making an appearance for the latest DC spinoff, "Legends of Tomorrow." He said, "I'm going to be a part of that right out of the gates as well, So I don't really know what to expect from that show yet, I don't think anybody does, but I'm excited to be a part of it."

Things are going well for Gustin's career. He shared his excitement to be working on the DC shows, telling fans at the Awards, "I get to be flash on three TV shows. I was unemployed a year-and-a-half ago, so that's pretty cool."

"The Flash" will premiere its second season on Oct. 7, on the CW.
