Julio Iglesias is recuperating from a minor back operation.

The medical procedure, which was done in New York last week, requires the singer to undergo a period of rest and recovery as advised by doctors, Fox News Latino reported. Fans should expect the Spanish performer to be in good condition in time for his August 5 concert in Marbella, Spain.

"Last week, Julio Iglesias had a small medical procedure (performed) in the lumbar portion of his back, as part of a routine checkup in New York. (The singer) will return to all his activities after the rest ... recommended by the doctors," said Jorge Iglesias, the recording artist's nephew and representative, as reported by Fox News Latino.

According to the news outlet, the 71-year-old crooner is working in his Miami recording studio to prepare for the upcoming concert in his homeland. The music event is a part of the Starlite Festival and will see Iglesias performing in Spain in September and October, with a series of concerts scheduled in Mexico and Latin America as well.

Earlier, it was rumored that Iglesias was admitted to a New York medical facility for a heart problem. The speculation was denied by a source close to the artist, Fox News Latino noted. Back in 2008, Iglesias had to cancel a concert in Ekaterinburg, Russia due to a heart ailment caused by stress, a separate report from the news outlet wrote. Four years later, he once again backed out of an appearance in Kuala Lumpur and left his Southeast Asia tour to recover in Spain.

There were also rumors that Iglesias is retiring, but he said that retirement is "absolutely" out of the question and that he will continue to sing "more than ever," Fox News Latino added.

Last May, Iglesias received an honorary doctorate degree from Boston's Berklee College of Music. His contribution in the music industry garnered him Spain's Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts Award along with the France's Legion d'Honneur, Fox News Latino noted. He also has a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Aside from these, Iglesias is the best-selling Latin artist with over 300 million albums sold, which he recorded in 14 different languages, NBC News wrote. He was born in Madrid, Spain and rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s for his hit tracks, such as "Por El Amor De Una Mujer," "Abrazame," and "Hey," as well as his English-language duets with singers like Willie Nelson in "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" and Diana Ross in "All of You."
