Enrique Iglesias has been charged with misdemeanor and driving with a suspended license in Maimi-Dade County last month, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.

According to NBC Miami, Iglesias was pulled over by a trooper on May 6 while the singer was driving a Cadillac Escalade. The SUV was driving northbound on Interstate 95 in the closed express lanes.

The FHP's affidavit indicates that when the Escalade was pulled over, Iglesias "jumped from the driver's seat into the back and the passenger got into the driver's seat," NBC Miami wrote.

"It was Mr. Iglesias that was the initial driver, yes," FHP Lt. Julio Pajon said, as quoted by the news outlet.

The 40-year-old recording artist and his companion and tour manager, Abel Tabuyo, were handcuffed, with Iglesias invoking his Miranda rights or "the right to remain silent," NBC Miami noted. Tabuyo said that he was clueless why Iglesias switched seats with him.

Iglesias and Tabuyo, who was charged with obstruction without violence as well, were released after the two signed notices to appear in court, the news outlet added. They both plead not guilty and Iglesias' next court date was scheduled for July 10.

The news comes after Iglesias' performance for the U.S. troops on June 27, Billboard reported. The concert, which was held at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma, saw 15,000 troops and their family members in the audience. His injured hand was not entirely healed and he performed for the crowd with a special brace and bandage.

Iglesias' concert at Fort Sill was free to all Air Force Reserve troops, family, and friends of the community, Billboard noted.

A few weeks ago, the Spanish singer made headlines after accidentally slicing his finger by a camera drone at a concert in Tijuana, Mexico, a separate report from Billboard wrote. The "Hero" singer's representative said that Iglesias was "semi-treated after the accident at the side of the stage to stop the bleeding," the news outlet wrote. But he adapted a "the show must go on" attitude and insisted on performing for another 30 minutes against the advice of his handlers.

Iglesias' treatment lasted longer than expected. His reps' statement, which was posted on Iglesias' official website, reads: "We wanted to give you a personal update about his condition. His recent surgery lasted longer than expected since the damage ended up being a bit worse than initially assessed. He suffered a fracture that needed to be corrected in addition to the reconstructive surgery. He will be recovering during the next few weeks, but a full recovery is anticipated."

The singer's tour will kick off once again on July 3 as the first of three consecutive nights at Mexico City's Auditorio Nacional, Billboard noted.
