Swiftie fans celebrate!
After her open letter to Apple Inc, Taylor Swift has changed her mind about not putting her album out for Apple Music, the tech giant's new music streaming service. The singer-songwriter herself confirmed the news via a series of posts on Twitter.
Taylor said, "After the events of this week, I've decided to put 1989 on Apple Music...and happily so. In case you're wondering if this is some exclusive deal like you've seen Apple do with others artists, it's not. This is simply the first time it's felt right in my gut to stream my album. Thank you, Apple, for your change of heart."
Before the company made this decision, Taylor expressed her thoughts on Tumblr, conveying her dismay about the company's refusal to pay artists whose songs were made available via Apple Music.
She said in her blog that Apple's decision, which has since been overturned, were "shocking, disappointing." She added, "This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success.... but will not get paid for a quarter of a year's worth of plays on his or her songs."
"These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call," wrote Taylor.
Her move to give a voice to lesser-known artists seems to be a noble move indeed, because Taylor is already basking in so much success. In fact, Taylor Swift, along with her new beau, Calvin Harris, are among Hollywood's highest-paid celebrity couple!
So it's time for Jay Z and Beyonce to move over because according to Forbes, Tay-Tay and Calvin raked in $146 million last year, thanks to her Sony and Keds endorsements, and Calvin's Giorgio Armani and Sol Republic contracts.
Jay Z and Beyonce, on the other hand, brought in a total of $110.5 million, majority coming from the ticket sales from their "On The Run" tour.
The "world's highest paid celebrities" is part of the magazine's rollout for their upcoming Celebrity 100, which will be published later this month. According to Time Magazine, Forbes ranked the celebrities by annual income, and only three couples made the list: Taylor and Calvin, Jay Z and Beyonce, and Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.
What do you think about Taylor's decision to put her music on Apple's streaming service?
