A new model of the Apple iMac may soon make its way to the market after a newest beta release hinted a 21.5-inch Retina device with 4K resolution.
MacRumors said that the Tuesday release of the OS X El Capitan beta revealed a code that hinted Apple products which will be released by the company.
It noted that the code hinted a Retinay display with 4096 x 2304 resolution that is theorised to be part of a 21.5-inch Retina iMac. There is also reportedly an indication that the said device will use an Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 coupled with a Broadwell/Skylake processor.
"There's a further mention of AMD Radeon graphics, which could be used in high-end iMac models," added MacRumors.
According to TechRadar, the code in the beta version revealed that the names of the four new AMD Radeon R9 processors are M380, M390, M395 and M395X.
"As MacBook Pro have yet to run anything but Intel processors since the lineup switched from Power PC chipsets back in 2006, it seems even more likely this mystery configuration belongs to a desktop iMac," explained the same report though it noted that these are still pure speculations.
A similar BGR writeup detailed that it has been two years since there was an update to the 21.5-inch iMac. After the 2013 refresh, the same report noted that the company was only able to come up with an "entry level" iMac which has 27-inch Retina 5K display.
With this beta release, however, fans could just be seeing the long-awaited model very soon, maybe as early as this coming fall.
Meanwhile, MacRumors noted that the beta release did not only dish about the upcoming 21.5-inch iMac upgrade but also hinted a new Remote which has a multi-touch trackpad, which will reportedly support scrolling. Aside from that, fans could also expect a dedicated Bluetooth chip and audio support for Siri commands.
Announced earlier this year along with the Apple TV, the redesigned remote will have improved functionality as per 9to5mac. The site explained that the device will have more buttons, a new design and a touchpad controller just like in Apple laptops.
Fans are now hoping that the rumoured update on the Apple iMac will show up on the next event of Apple where they are expected to announce their new installment on the iPhone series. An event by fall is also anticipated to reveal details on an iPad Air 3 or an iPad Mini 4.
But The Verge noted that fans should keep in mind that "it's not uncommon for Apple's plans to sneak out through its beta code." The report said this scenario happened in previous years though the company has obviously did not plan it to happen.
