About a year after Formula One racer Michael Schumacher awoke from his coma, few details have been known about his recovery though doctors reportedly expect that it may take one to three years before he can fully recover.
Telegraph said that the last news about the F1 champ was the statement of F1 executive Bernie Ecclestone, who also happened to be Schumacher's close friend. He said he did not want to visit the racer because of his condition.
"I don't want to see Michael like that. I remember Michael as he was. That is how I want to see Michael. If he comes back, that is how I want Michael to be," Ecclestone was quoted by Telegraph as saying.
It has been more than a year ago when Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm confirmed that the racer already left a hospital in Grenoble, six months after he had the skiing accident on the French Alps.
He was reportedly transferred to a rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland, which was closer to his home near Lake Geneva. There, he spent three months of recovery prior to being transferred to his family home where he is now being cared for by his family and a medical team monitoring his condition.
"Considering the severe head injuries he suffered, progress has been made in the past weeks and months. There is still, however, a long and difficult road ahead. We ask that the privacy of Michael's family continue to be respected, and that speculations about the state of his health are avoided," Kehm said after Schumacher's trip home.
According to Vine Report, there have been no concrete reports on his present condition though he is reportedly making slow progress. The site added that the racer is still unable to speak and move.
Quoting one of Schumacher's doctors, Jean-Francois Payen, Vine Report said that it may take several years before "he can return to his normal self."
"I have noticed some progress but I would say we will have to give him time. It is like for other patients. We are in a time scale of one to three years, so you need patience," Payen added.
Though specific details on his recovery are still scarce, it is assumed that the racer is courageously fighting this battle in his life with the help of his family and friends. The media and his fans are certainly hoping that news about him will be available soon as they are excited to get updates on his condition.
Telegraph added that the anticipation could take a bit more time as his recovery is "a process that seemingly will take many years and even then the eventual outcome is not clear."
If ever that time comes when the racer makes his full recovery, his loved ones, friends and family would like to see him return to his normal routine or even to racing.
