Each year, there is a list of "it" actors and actresses who grace the covers of countless magazines and appear in strings of hit films. 2013 was no different, with certain stars experiencing meteoric fame and becoming household names.

This year, both old and new actors and actresses made the the list of the most talked about stars in Hollywood.

Most Talked About Actresses:

5. Scarlett Johansson- Known as Hollywood's quintessential blonde bombshell, she is constantly on the "it" list of top Hollywood actresses. She shot to fame after her role in the critically acclaimed film "Lost in Translation." She appeared in "The Avengers" in 2012 and starred this year in "Don Jon" opposite Joseph-Gordon Levitt.

4. Sandra Bullock- Even though Bullock has been a Hollywood fixture for years, she is gaining critical acclaim once again for the film "Gravity," in which she stars alongside George Clooney. In the film, she plays an astronaut who is trying to get back to Earth after the U.S. space station was destroyed. She also starred this year in "The Heat," and won an oscar in 2009 for Best Actress in "The Blind Side."

3. Mila Kunis- Like Johansson, Kunis usually tops the list of beautiful Hollywood actresses who are in high demand. Kunis began her career at the young age of 16 in the television series "That '70s Show," and starred this year in "Oz the Great and Powerful" alongside James Franco, which was one of the highest grossing films of the year. Her relationship with former "That '70s Show" star Ashton Kutcher has also made headlines.

2. Chloe Grace Moretz- At the young age of 16, Moretz has topped the list of most popular actresses of 2013, according to IMDB. She appeared in films such as the remake of "The Amityville Horror" and starred this year in "Kick Ass 2" and the remake of cult horror hit "Carrie."

1. Jennifer Lawrence- Lawrence is hands-down the most talked about actress of 2013, eclipsing other young "it" girls like Emma Stone and newcomer Moretz. Lawrence became an international sensation when she won the Best Actress Oscar in 2012 for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook." This year, she stars in one of the highest grossing movies of 2013, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," and appears in the new film "American Hustle." Her down-to-earth likability and frank humor has definitely earned her the spot as Hollywood's new "it" girl.

Most Talked About Actors:

5. Leonardo DiCaprio- DiCaprio is not a newcomer to the film world, and has been headlining films since the mid-1990s. However, DiCaprio is still one of the most talked about actors in Hollywood. DiCaprio's debonair looks and undeniable acting talent has made him a fixture in the Hollywood scene. He starred this year as Gatsby in "The Great Gatsby," and stars in the new film "The Wolf of Wall Street."

4. Bradley Cooper- The Philadelphia-born actor caught Hollywood's eye when he appeared on the shows "Alias" and "Jack and Bobby." Now, he is one of Hollywood's most sought after actors. He appeared in "The Hangover" series and received critical acclaim for his role in 2012's "Silver Linings Playbook" alongside Jennifer Lawrence. He stars alongside Lawrence once again in 2013's "American Hustle."

3. Tom Hiddleston- Hiddleston, along with Benedict Cumberbatch, is a favorite of both mainstream audiences and Anglophile fangirls alike. Hiddleston is best known for his scene-stealing performance as Loki in "Thor: The Dark World," and appeared this year in "Only Lovers Left Alive." He also appears in the upcoming 2014 film "Muppets Most Wanted."

2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt- Gordon-Levitt has enchanted audiences with his boyish good looks and boy-next-door charm. He appeared in the blockbuster hit "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012, and starred this year with co-star Scarlett Johansson in "Don Jon."

1. Benedict Cumberbatch- Known for his British charm and deep voice, Cumberbatch is by far the most talked about actors this year. The import from the U.K. is one Hollywood's hottest new actors (and heartthrobs). He stars in the BBC hit series "Sherlock," and has starred in three films in 2013: "The Fifth Estate," "Star Trek Into Darkness" and is the voice of Smaug in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug."
