Donald Trump's racist remarks against Mexican immigrants weren't taken personally by Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete.

The beauty queen, who was asked for comments regarding the presidential candidate's statement condemning her fellow Mexicans, said that she treated the matter with professionalism.

"I don't like to go into political subjects," Navarrete told Mexican magazine TVyNovelas, as reported by Latin Times. "Donald Trump has treated me super nicely, I'm still working with him until today, I have a contract with him. I am not going to say bad things about someone who has treated me well."

The 27-year-old TV host continued, "I understand that he has a situation with someone from a long time ago, some debt, someone who owes him money since 2007. I think that is the root of his anger but I also stand up for Mexicans. I am one, I'm a punctual, honest, and hardworking woman. I understand both parts here, and I'm always going to defend that, the Mexican people."

Trump said in his candidacy speech that Mexico was "not sending its brightest minds to the U.S., instead it was sending drugs, crime, and rapists across the border illegally," Fox News Latino wrote.

Trump's remarks have drawn the ire of the public as well as celebrities. Comedic actor Rob Schneider tweeted: "Dear Donald Trump, my daughter is half Mexican. It seems like her only 'problem' is that she speaks 2 languages and she's not even 3!"

Other celebrities who have called out the business tycoon's comments are Mexican actress Carmen Salinas, Maná's lead singer Fher Olvera, and "12 Years a Slave" star Lupita Nyong'o. Olvera described Trump as someone with "full of hate in his heart," Latin Times quoted.

Univision's news anchor, Jorge Ramos, wrote an op-ed in Spanish published both on Univision and on his blog. He said that Trump is a hypocrite, given that the businessman employs Hispanic workers in his hotel chains.

"It is hypocrisy to criticize Mexicans while, at the same time, you benefit from their work," Ramos wrote. "To Trump, who is so fond of setting challenges in his television show, 'The Apprentice,' I propose the following: to spend one single day -- just one -- without their Mexican and Latino employees. He would not be able to do it. His businesses would be paralyzed. A day without Mexicans would stop the Trump empire."

In his speech, the 69-year-old businessman said that he will build a wall between Mexico and the U.S. as a way to punish the former.

He continued, "And nobody comes in illegally anymore . . . I build great buildings all over the world. I would have Mexico pay for it. Believe me. They will pay for it because they have really ripped this country off."

Trump's animosity towards Mexicans was also highlighted in February when he commented that Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Birdman" win at the Oscars 2015 was "ridiculous."
