Growing up under the watchful eyes of the media was no easy feat for Selena Gomez. Being one of the most famous young faces in Hollywood is an achievement, but it doesn't always work that way for the former Disney star.

In an interview on "The Elvis Duran Z100 Morning Show," the 22-year-old singer/actress revealed the struggles she had to go through because of fame.

"People are like, 'We want you to be better,'" Gomez shared, as quoted by PEOPLE. "And then the moment you're trying to find some sort of happiness, it's so crazy. It's not safe for anyone! You can't talk about anything that you want to share with people because it's going to be ripped apart, and that's what makes me really sad."

As a way of coping, Gomez explained that she learned to rely on her music to reveal her innermost feelings. The proof of this is her 2014 single titled "The Heart Wants What It Wants," PEOPLE noted. Just recently, the recording artist also released a new song, "Good for You," a collaboration with A$AP Rocky.

In the Z100 interview, Gomez also said that she doesn't trust anyone anymore. "If you're going to sit here and talk about my life, I have a right to say what I want and obviously I'm going to do it the way I wish to," she said, PEOPLE quoted.

Gomez continued, "It's something that I have to live with and I have to find the balance of who I want in my life and who isn't good for me."

The "Hotel Transylvania 2" star said that she prefers to hang out at home to stay away from the paparazzi roaming "everywhere" in Los Angeles, PEOPLE reported. She oked that she doesn't have a cat yet, but good friend Taylor Swift is "trying to convince" her to get one.

According to Gomez, people regularly forget that just like everyone, she also experiences a lot of feelings especially at her young age. She previously dated singer Justin Bieber and was romantically linked to DJ Zedd earlier this year.

"I get sad, I get anxious, I get emotional, I get happy," Gomez explained, as quoted by PEOPLE. "Especially in my 20s, my gosh! I feel like I'm figuring out who I am and I'm constantly being criticized."

Speaking about "Good for You," she said that her newest track highlights the self-assurance she now has a young woman. The singer also commends A$AP Rocky for his contribution, saying that the rapper took the song "into a whole new other world," the news outlet reported.

"I think that this song represents the confidence that I truly have inside of me, and I think it's the vulnerable side that I've expressed, but it's also the combination of just feeling myself," Gomez explained, as reported by PEOPLE.
