Rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs was  arrested for allegedly assaulting a football coach using a kettlebell inside the UCLA athletic facility on Monday.

An initial TMZ report revealed that the rapper had an altercation with strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi inside the facility where Combs' son Justin was training with the UCLA football team.

Combs reportedly went to the university during his son's workout session to confront Alosi for "riding Justin badly" and telling him not to come back until the end of summer. TMZ said that the coach did not want to see and talk to the rapper but the latter insisted and even went to his office where the coach asked him to leave and threatened to call security.

"Fine, I'll call police" was the response of Diddy, as per TMZ. This obviously irked the coach who allegedly went after the rapper using his hands.

In retaliation, Diddy is believed to have grabbed a kettlebell and "held it up in a defensive position" noting that he did not attack using the heavy workout equipment. TMZ said in an update that he only acted in self defense and clarified that he was not the aggressor.

A similar USA Today report added that no one was seriously injured during the incident though campus police are still investigating the incident. The site also noted that Alosi was a former strength coach of the New York Jets, but was suspended five years ago for tripping a player.

Combs was said to have been taken into custody in the campus jail. He is expected to be taken to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Reception Center on Monday evening.

In a statement released by the UCLA, the university confirmed Combs' arrest which happened at around 12: 30 p.m.

"Sean Combs (also known as Diddy) was arrested at UCLA's Acosta Athletic Training Complex on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, which was a kettlebell," the statement furthered.

Football coach Jim Mora also made a statement where he claimed that the university's staff handled the incident with a high level of professionalism.

"This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved.  While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time," Mora added.

An update on the UCLA statement revealed that the UCPD has changed the charges of Combs to three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and another count for battery. He has been reportedly booked into the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Inmate Reception Center.

USA Today noted that his son is a 5'7" junior who has played for two seasons with the Bruins and is also playing with special teams in the university.
