It looks like Apple is now going full HD as the first model of iPad mini, the only tablet without Retina Display, is no longer available for sale on the Apple website. Is the tech giant paving way for a new tablet?
9to5Mac reported that the tech giant removed the listing from its website a few days ago. The first generation iPad Mini was released last 2012, and its purpose is to serve as an alternative to the iPad in terms of portability.
However, its successors quickly outmatched the said device, as the current generation iPad mini 3 boasts Retina display, the Touch ID feature, and 64-bit A7 processor.
The first gen iPad Mini can be purchased at around $209-409 depending on its storage capacity, which makes it a hard sell. The iPad mini 3 can be purchased at $399 while the iPad mini 2 can be bought at $299.
Meanwhile, a new and improved Apple tablet, the iPad Pro as the media calls it, is reportedly underway. Rumors about the new tablet's development first surfaced in mid-2013 and the target market is said to be enterprise customers. It is poised to be nearly as huge as the 13-inch MacBook Air at 12.9 inch.
Although Apple has yet to release an official statement about its official name, the new tablet in development is also rumored to be named "iPad Air Plus" as suggested by Mac Fan.
According to Mac Rumors, Apple users can expect iPad Pro to have the following specs once it hits retail stores: a 12.9 inch high resolution display, an A9 processor, 2 GB RAM, iOS 8, Touch ID, and USB 3.0 ports. It may also be available in White and Silver, White and Gold, and Black/Space Gray color variants.
For the iPad Pro's miscellaneous features, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the tablet could include a stylus accessory, since the device is aimed towards the enterprise market. It will also be rechargeable using the lightning connector, plus it might also function together with Bluetooth to allow pressure sensitivity input.
The website also suggested that the new tablet device appearance might be patterned with the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3.
Lastly, for the iPad Pro's release date, Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is targeting a September 2015 launch.
The current roster of Apple tablets for sale includes the iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 2.
