Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love is likely to opt out from his team and be a free agent come next season, reports claim.

FanSided noted that Love was supposed to play a major role for the Cavs during the NBA Finals but was sidelined by a shoulder injury just like teammate Kyrie Irving, which hindered them both from participating in the games.

With his team losing the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors, there are rumors that Love could be choosing free agency instead of staying with the team, but he has yet to announce his decision on the issue.

The Cavs are reportedly waiting for Love's decision for next season since he, LeBron James, Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith and Matthew Dellavedova could be free agents come next month.

With this possiblity, Cavs general manager David Griffin said in an NBC Sports report that he is expecting Love and James to choose free agency "before ultimately re-signing."

"We very much intend to keep this group together. You look at that as a group that has the potential to be special, special good," Griffin said of the team's roster.

When it comes to Love, FanSided said that there is always that great chance that he will leave the team even if he gets re-signed. One of the best choices for the team in this case is to offer him a maximum deal, which could not be entirely feasible.

After his shoulder injury last month, Love told ESPN that he will still be playing for the Cavs next season since he has one remaining year with the team as stipulated in his contract.

During the first round of Game 4 against the Boston Celtics, Love dislocated his shoulder after Kelly Olynyk pulled down on his left arm. The Celtics center was suspended for a game, but he is set to serve it at the start of next season.

His absence in the games leading to the finals was really frustrating for Love, but he said, as per New York Post, that he views his injury as a motivation to be with his current team again.

"Motivation in general. We have guys who have stepped up not only in my absence, but different guys have gone down and played unbelievable. You've seen the emergence of Thompson, who has been a monster. Shump [Iman Shumpert] has been playing great. J.R. [Smith]. We've had guys who have stepped up. We've had the foundation all along," he explained.

Love noted that he could now qualify as a small forward after he lost 15 pounds while rehabilitating his shoulder.

If this is still Love's take on his being part of the team, there is still that possibility that he will play for another season with the Cavs, but there is no assurance that the will stay for a long time.
