Did a KFC outlet in Los Angeles serve fried rat? Devorise Dixon, a 25-year-old customer of the food chain believes so.
Photos and a video of the alleged fried rat covered with the famous tasty breading of the food franchise surfaced and went viral over social media after Dixon uploaded them on Facebook, Huffington Post reported on Wednesday.
In his post, Dixon narrated how he noticed a rubbery texture after biting into the breaded fried 'chicken' he received in a three-piece meal from the Los Angeles KFC outlet on Friday, June 12.
After noticing its odd shape to match the rubbery texture, he allegedly returned the piece to the KFC outlet and claimed that the manager herself confirmed that it was a fried rat.
"Went back to KFC yesterday and spoke to the manager she said it is a rat and apologized, it's time for a lawyer!!! Besafe (sic) don't eat fast food!!!" he wrote as his Facebook status and explained during an interview with the Randy Economy Show that he was offered a free meal by the manager after the incident.
After getting wind of the news, many Facebook users not only from different states but also from different regions around the world, including Australia and South Africa, shared his story on social media.
Some even posted their sympathies and advices to the California man for what he experienced, while others posted some photos that allegedly show how KFC keeps sanitation at the bottom of their priority list
"Shared in South Africa my dawg. Feeling sorry for your stomach after experiencing such a disgusting thingy. KFC should be shut down period, Here In SA KFC stuff were caught on Camera Washing their meat on the ground floor," Teboho Mohakala wrote on Dixon's Facebook wall.
Tan Sri Regan even joked how "awesome" the rat-chicken recipe seems to be and that they are waiting for more of this kind of stuff in Malaysia in his post on Dixon's wall on June 15.
After making a wave all over the information superhighway, Dixon also made it to the news where KFC was able to respond to the allegations.
According to KTLA, the "fried rat" is a big piece of breaded chicken that is coincidentally "attached to a longer string of fried breading, which could be interpreted to be a rat's tail."
KFC also explained to ABC News how they tried to communicate with Dixon after learning about the incident "but he is refusing to talk to us directly or through an attorney."
"Our chicken tenders often vary in size and shape, and we currently have no evidence to support this allegation," the fast food chain explained further, adding that the photos Dixon posted "clearly" show that the piece is a "hand-breaded white meat chicken."
Aside from that, KFC claims that Dixon had refused to cooperate in the investigation and even impeded evaluation of the product by an independent lab.
