"Magic Mike" stirred ladies' fantasies when an almost-naked Channing Tatum came to the big screen, stripping. While male strippers are all the rage for the film and its upcoming sequel, it seems that Tatum's Mike and his friends are strippers with hearts.
People Magazine noted that in an exclusive "Magic Mike XXL" clip, Tatum heats up the screen with a speech for his colleagues in the stripper business, including Joe Manganiello's Richie, who seemed to be needing a little motivation, and maybe some declaration of feelings.
While Mike declared his love for the group in a speech that earned some pre-show cheer, Jada Pinkett Smith as a manager named Rome, cut off the tender moment between the men, telling them with an icy glare that "It's not bro time, it's showtime."
The clip is available exclusively via People and Entertainment Weekly, so check it out here.
While many think that the film is God's gift to women, apparently, the stars of the movie were not as happy during production. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, the cast members revealed that dietary deprivation is the worst thing about filming.
Tatum shared, "You would always know who was about to carb out, because we hadn't had a carb in - they'd just start to get pissy, start moaning a lot."
However, with all the hype, could the sequel reach the bar set by the original film? According to actor Adam Rodriguez, it definitely can. He told Access Hollywood, "The candy man is definitely bigger and better. I mean, everything's bigger and better. It's xxl. We had to pump everything up to a new level, and I don't think we disappoint."
Jada Pinkett-Smith's presence also did not hurt. She explained to Haute Living New York that the role of Rome was supposed to be written for a man, but while apprehensive at first, Tatum managed to convince her otherwise. She said, "One of the biggest selling points for accepting the role was Channing (Tatum) saying - and I'm not quoting - that there is a way to make the adult entertainment industry responsible."
She also mentioned, "First of all, Channing has a huge influence in this industry - the idea that he has the guts to tackle this subject was a real selling point for me."
"Magic Mike XXL" will be premiering in theaters on July 1st, so make sure to mark it on your calendars.
