A&E has picked up "Bates Motel" for two more seasons.

Several sources, including Entertainment Weekly, reported about the drama-thriller TV series' Seasons 4 and 5 renewals. The network has ordered 20 more episodes of the show which stars Vera Farmiga (Norma Bates) and Freddie Highmore (Norman Bates).

"The vision of our incredible creative team has exposed the steady breakdown of the relationship between Norman and Norma Bates," said Rob Sharenow, A&E's executive vice president and general manager, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly. "We are thrilled to bring fans two more seasons to witness the next stages of Norman's transformation into the most notorious psychopath in cinematic history."

"Bates Motel" is set to kick off production later this year, with a Season 4 air date scheduled in 2016, the news outlet noted. According to TV Line, the two-season renewal will make sure that co-creators Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse "will get to finish out what they have long billed as a five-season tale." However, A&E didn't confirm whether Season 5 will be the series' last, which is slated to premiere in early 2017.

The Season 3 finale of "Bates Motel" featured Norman brutally murdering Bradley Martin (Nicola Peltz) as his mother, while the real Norma is considering putting his son into a mental hospital. Speaking to TV Line about that significant moment, Ehrin confirmed that Norman will go deep into his mental disorder, and that Season 4 will showcase more of the titular character acting as his mom.

Season 3's ender also saw the first kiss between Dylan Massett (Max Thieriot) and Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke). In TV Line's interview, Thieriot said that Dylan's connection with Emma was something that the character has longed for all his life.

"[That connection] is something that has been missing [in his life]. For him to finally have this happiness is a huge relief to him," the actor explained, as quoted by the news outlet.

Co-showrunner Cuse assured fans that Season 4 will show a "Norman unleashed," Calgary Herald reported. According to Cuse, Season 3 focused on Norman being aware of his condition, in that he is capable of doing horrible things whenever he blacks out.

"By the end of the season, Norman is moving from one persona to the other without any real cognition of that. And that is the scary evolution," Cuse explained, as reported by Calgary Herald. "Now that this character is freely jumping in and out of personas, that's going to be really compelling. The question is, what can Norma do to save her son as he descends further into his disease. That's really the question of Season 4."

In addition, the showrunner said that Norman will drive the story of Season 4, and that the character will do "surprising things" from then on, the news outlet added.
