The second season finale of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" featured the departure of Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) and Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) from the 99th precinct. In addition, a much-awaited development in the relationship of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) was also introduced in Season 2's ender. With these exciting plotlines set in stone, Fox's hit comedy series will surely provide a lot of stories and characters left to explore when the third season airs.

Though Holt and Gina will now work for NYPD's Public Relations office, executive producer Dan Goor insisted that the two characters will still be prominent faces in Season 3, but not in the first few episodes.

"He will be on the show," said Goor, as quoted by Entertainment Weekly. "Holt will be out of the office for the first few episodes. We'll be following him and Gina to the PR world."

Goor added that Holt's replacement as the new captain of the 99th "will cause ripples in the office," Entertainment Weekly reported, adding that the change-up will not sit well with Jake.

"We're very conscious of the fact that he lost a dad again," the exec producer continued, as quoted by the news outlet.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month, Goor revealed that the 99th precinct's new captain hasn't been cast yet, but the co-creator assured that they "have some really exciting ideas in a lot different directions." Goor also teased that there's a chance that the new captain will bring along a new Gina.

"It'll be very cool to see how the new captain acts like a stone tossed into a lake and see what ripples come from that," he explained to The Hollywood Reporter. "And there's also a chance to meet some new people in Holt's new office as well."

As for how Jake and Amy's kiss will play out in the third season, Goor said that the moment will definitely be explored in the series' future episodes, adding that the development of the pair's chemistry was "a natural place to get to," The Hollywood Reported noted.

"It wasn't just a thing for the finale, and it's not a thing that we're going to have them say in the first episode, "I can't believe that happened, let's never talk about it." We'll definitely explore what it's like for those two characters, who are very different people but clearly are attracted to each other and who work together, to have had that," he explained, as reported by the news outlet.

Goor also hinted that Kyra Sedgwick would reprise her role as Madeline Wuntch in Season 3. He added that they are hopeful for the third season to be "greater" than its predecessors, The Hollywood Reporter added.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" returns for Season 3 this coming fall on Fox. The series also stars Stephanie Beatriz as Rosa Diaz, Terry Crews as Terry Jeffords, Joe Lo Truglio as Charles Boyle, Joel McKinnon Miller as Scully, and Dirk Blocker as Hitchcock.
