Nintendo unveiled a never-before-seen 3DS game dubbed as Blast Ball, a virtual soccer game more difficult that the real one, which was played for the very first time live on stage in teams of three during the E3 2015 Nintendo World Championships.
The Kyoto-based Japanese multinational consumer electronics company revealed the game as the latest addition to its line of eSports, which initially included Wii U, Splatoon, Smash Bros. for 3DS and the Nintendo World Championships.
During the event on June 14 that gathered top gamers from all over the Pacific, Nintendo Co., Ltd. introduced "Blast Ball" which, according to IGN, has very close resemblance to a DS game released in 2006 called the "Metroid Prime Hunters."
According to Shack News, the new game revealed at the second stage of the tournament is centered at a futuristic soccer match where players wearing huge mech suits play the game by aiming and shooting a glowing ball towards the goal while they collect boosters and power-ups that make their offense stronger.
Players can also attack members of the other team using the ball itself in order to apply enough damage to eliminate an opponent from the game, while the players on defense can use their own mechs to prevent their opponent from scoring a goal.
One round of the game entails playing soccer using a ball of what seemed to be made of lava which damages mechs that touch it, making it even more difficult to score without getting eliminated from the game.
What is special about this new virtual sport is that it is twice more difficult than your average soccer game because Nintendo programmer designed the goal to shrink whenever a point is earned.
Meanwhile, Kotaku deemed the game to be so much like "Metroid" because of its graphics style, HUD and the single-weapon arm similar to the mission account of the space-faring bounty hunter Samus Aran.
The online gaming website also noted that how Nintendo revealed its new product was such "a weird way to intoduce a game." The site added that the game seemed to be more exciting and fun to play on stage during a major event in the gaming industry.
Though there is no official report yet on when Nintendo intends to launch the game or how much it would cost, Kotaku predicts that it would be included in the company's E3 presentation on the latter part of the third week of June.
