Verizon HTC Droid DNA owners are in for a treat. Big Red has pushed out massive update for the smartphone containing Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and HTC's Sense 5 user interface.

The update finally brings the Verizon Droid DNA out of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and although Android 4.2.2 is a couple versions behind the latest Android 4.4 KitKat, it's still a welcome patch.

The firmware is rolling out over the air, so it shouldn't be long before all Verizon Droid DNA owners get the download notification. Users will have to first download build 2.08.605.1710RD, which preps the phone for the real meaty part of the upgrade, build 3.06.605.4.

The amount of changes in the build are numerous, and those interested in the nitty gritty can head over to Verizon's official support doc for all the details. Other than the usual security and performance improvements, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will also bring more customization options to the table. Sense 5, however, is where most users will see the most glaring changes.

Sense 5 is an upgraded version of HTC's Sense user interface and brings some notable new features to the table. Users can aggregate content from various sources in BlinkFeed, create 30-second movie postcards with Video Highlights, and enjoy the new dialer and gallery app among other tweaks. All in all, Sense 5 should breath some fresh life into the Droid DNA.

HTC has confirmed that the Droid DNA will receive Android 4.4 KitKat, although the company did not specify a specific date other than Q1 2014.
