"Red Dawn" star Chris Hemsworth would bring enough testosterone to fill Paul Feig's female-led "Ghostbusters"' reboot as the director drops this bombshell of a revelation to the classic movie's fans over Twitter, on Wednesday.
American director Paul Samuel Feig caught the social media users' attention after tweeting: "Our receptionist. #whoyougonnacall" with the 31-year-old Australian actor's smiling image, leaving his followers drooling for more information on his version of Ghostbusters."
Hemsworth, who recently played Thor in the "Avengers: Age of Ultron"—released in May—and would star in the Ed Helms-starrer "Vacation" in July, is set to join an all-female Ghostbuster group composed of Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon.
According to Feig's tweet, Hemsworth would be playing the Ghostbuster's receptionist, who was portrayed by Annie Potts in the original version of the movie which, back then, stars Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson.
Aside from casting hunky Thor for this role, Feig had been lauded by the movie franchise's fans for choosing the industry's leading comediennes to give an awesome new twist to the film, which is scheduled for theater release on July 22 next year, US Magazine has learned.
"Those four ladies I have starring in it are so funny and that's half the battle," Feig stated in an interview, adding that he would "battle with the best army I have."
"My whole crew from all my other movies have come aboard, and some great special effects people have come aboard - I have never really done this level of effects before - and I'm excited!" he added.
According to Breathe Cast, Feig clarified that while the movie will still have the same light comedy it boasted in the original 1989 film, it is not a sequel and would have a whole different and a little bit scarier plot that he and his screenwriter made.
Initially, Feig was appointed to do a sequel dubbed as the "Ghostbusters 3," but he was faced with a couple of setbacks including Harold Ramis' passing and Bill Murray's refusal for another contract with the franchise.
Feig and Ivan Reitman, the producer of the reboot, had also tried getting a new set of actors to portray one of the members of the ghoul-hunting team, which interestingly included Hemsworth, who then declined because he deemed the role too small, Variety reports citing an unnamed source. Eventually, Feig decided to create a reboot of the hit film.
