Nokia's biggest surprise last summer, the Z Launcher for Android recently got a massive update, which added support for home screen widgets.
TechnoBuffalo said this update also came with a "handy alphabetical app list" that puts all software with a single swipe.
It can be noted that last November, Nokia released its first Android app which launches anything in your Android phone.
"Throughout the day, Nokia Z Launcher is learning how you use your phone and promoting your favorite apps so you can get to them faster. The more you use it, the better it gets," read the description on its download page.
According to BGR, these launcher apps replace the home screen of phones with a different interface and introduce new functionality. It added that the Z Launcher received great support from the Android community having 1 million activations for the past month.
The key features of the app include: pulling up contacts by simply spelling out their names with your finger on the phone screen.
"So for example, if I want to call Nokia, I'll begin drawing "N," "O," "K" with my finger, and the Nokia contact will be displayed," explained BGR.
With the new update, TechnoBuffalo said the widgets can already be added on the dedicated widgets page simply by tapping and holding on the display, dragging then dropping the chosen widgets. These can also be resized through the Z Launcher.
"Widgets have been a staple of Android since the very beginning, and many users simply can't live without them; Nokia says widget support is the most requested feature from Z Launcher users," added TechnoBuffalo.
The "A to Z App List," which comes with the update and can be accessed by swiping from the left edge of the screen, provides a neat list of all the apps and games on your device for easy access.
In the Z Launcher website, it was also explained that the update will provide maximised space for widgets. "Since we have only one page for widgets, we wanted to maximize the space available and therefore we don't show the bottom row of pinned apps on the widgets screen," the description explained.
The widgets page was also designed to host widgets alone, helping users fit the most important ones they like and keeping their phone screens clean and simple.
There is also an option of restyling the widgets. "As you drag around, resize and remove widgets, you'll notice we've built it in a way that reflects the existing design of Z Launcher. It's a bit different from the standard Android way," added the website.
To make sure that the the new update will not shock and make users uncomfortable of the incorporated changes, Nokia announced on its website that feedback will always be welcome.
Meanwhile, a Softpedia report said that there are more exciting things to come for the Z Launcher, including a personal digital assistant which will reportedly be included in the N1 tablet. The intelligent assistant is claimed to be based on the Desti's technology.
"Desti is a trip planner with AI and natural language processing capabilities. It comes from same lab where Siri was developed. So, Nokia has access to AI and language processing patents," revealed the Softpedia source.
