After getting married last month, WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson are now expecting a baby.

On her Instagram account, Johnson posted a photo of a bun coming out of a cake shaped like an oven. She captioned the snap: "#SUCCESS #BLESSED #WelcomeToTheJohnsonGrinerFamily."

Her social media announcement was confirmed with a statement from Shock noting that Johnson will indeed miss the season.

"It has always been a dream of mine to start a family with someone I love. Being a professional athlete that plays year round, there is never a perfect time to get pregnant without putting my career on hold," the statement read.

"The entire process, from learning our fertility options, to making sacrifices necessary nine months before the child is born, is merely preparing me to become a great wife and an even better mother," the statement went on as quoted by Yahoo Sports.

For the past three seasons, Johnson reportedly averaged 13.7 points and 3 rebounds. However, her NBA career would have to be sidelined amid her pregnancy so she can focus on starting a family with her partner.

"Right now, I not only have my health to worry about, but also the health of this little one resting inside of me. Rest assured I will be back next season, stronger and more ready to play than ever!" Johnson added.

Meanwhile, Tulsa Shock President Steve Swetoha said on Facebook that they wish the couple the best with this new phase in their lives.

"We are excited for Glory and Brittney and wish them the best in the upcoming year with the birth of their first child. We look forward to seeing Glory back in a Shock uniform in 2016," Swetoha added.

It was added in the team's statement that Johnson is undergoing all the stages to prepare her for family life post-pregnancy.

"The entire process, from learning our fertility options, to making the sacrifices necessary nine months before this child is born, is merely preparing me to become a great wife and an even better mother. The hardest part is sitting out this WNBA season, being away from my loving teammates, and not being able to be on the court and play for our devoted fans," Johnson noted in the statement.

She also mentioned that she will be back for next season to play for the WNBA.

US Magazine has learned that a sperm donor was used to conceive Griner and Johnson's baby. Prior to all these plans and getting married, the two got involved in an assault in April 2015, which led to a suspension of seven games each for both of them.

According to Yahoo Sports, Johnson is planning to appeal the suspension and that her lawyers are also planning legal remedies on the matter. The suspension is expected to take effect next season.
