Marvel has recently released a new batch of photos and an extended TV spot for the upcoming superhero film "Ant-Man."
Marvel posted 12 brand new pictures from the movie's set. Check out some of the snapshots below. For more photos, visit Marvel's official site.
"Ant-Man," which is set to debut in theaters on July 17, stars Paul Rudd in the titular character named Scott Lang, a former criminal who was recruited by Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to go on an ultimate heist in an effort to save the world. Lang inherits a suit from his mentor which allows him to be diminutive in size while maintaining proportionate strength, Marvel wrote. The suit also allows the superhero to communicate with ants.
The film also stars Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip "Ti" Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, and Jordi Mollà as Castillo, Screenrant wrote..
Peyton Reed sits in the director's chair, with Kevin Feige and Nira Park serving as executive producers. Rudd, Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, and Adam McKay wrote the movie's screenplay, IGN listed.
Aside from the new batch of photos, an extended TV spot was also published recently by the YouTube Channel Marvel Entertainment. Watch it below.
According to a separate report from IGN, Wright was supposed to be the director of the film he first wrote with Cornish, but he departed the project due to creative differences with Marvel. The revised script that was used for the movie was then written by Rudd and McKay.
Joss Whedon, the director of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," said in an interview last April that he was disappointed when Wright left the Marvel film.
"I thought the script was not only the best script that Marvel had ever had, but the most Marvel script I'd read," Whedon told BuzzFeed in an interview last April. "I had no interest in 'Ant-Man.' [Then] I read the script, and was like, Of course! This is so good! It reminded me of the books when I read them. Irreverent and funny and could make what was small large, and vice versa."
The filmmaker said that Wright's decision was "sad," explaining to BuzzFeed, "Whatever dissonance that came, whatever it was, I don't understand why it was bigger than a marriage that seemed so right. But I'm not going to say it was definitely all Marvel, or Edgar's gone mad!"
Speaking to SlashFilm about the upcoming movie, Feige revealed that the superhero film's odd placement between the phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe wasn't an "after thought." According to the producer, "Ant-Man" connects "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Captain America: Civil War" with each other.
