Enrique Iglesias' representatives issued an update regarding the singer's hand injury sustained at a recent concert. It turns out that the treatment for his damaged hand will be longer than anticipated.

The statement, which was posted on Iglesias' official website on Tuesday, June 2, reads: "We wanted to give you a personal update about his condition. His recent surgery lasted longer than expected since the damage ended up being a bit worse than initially assessed. He suffered a fracture that needed to be corrected in addition to the reconstructive surgery. He will be recovering during the next few weeks, but a full recovery is anticipated."

At a concert in Tijuana, Mexico, Iglesias sliced his fingers after grabbing a camera drone made for taking crowd shots, Billboard reported.

The "Hero" singer's representative told The Associated Press that Iglesias "was 'semi-treated' after the accident at the side of the stage to stop the bleeding on Saturday night (May 30)," the news outlet wrote. But he adapted a "the show must go on" attitude and insisted on performing for another 30 minutes against the advice of his handlers.

Iglesias often grabs a drone in his concert performances to give the audience a "point of view" angle, Billboard added. During the concert at Mexico, the crooner held a drone to adjust its camera and visibly bled as spectators at Plaza de Toros de Playas watched. The concertgoers posted photos of Iglesias on social media with blood smeared all over his white t-shirt.

The singer was just 50 minutes into his show and halfway through his performance of the song "Escape" when the incident occurred, Daily Mail noted.

Iglesias, however, chose to transform his injury into a work of art. Joe Bonilla, the 40-year-old singer's representative, tweeted a snapshot of Iglesias drawing a heart on his t-shirt using his own blood.

According to the artist's rep, Iglesias was "later rushed to the airport" after the concert to board a flight to Los Angeles and have his hand treated, Billboard wrote.

The Associated Press published a video of Iglesias having his injured figners treated and bandaged after the incident and then returning to the stage to sing some of his most well-known tracks, "Bailando" and "I Like It."

On his official site, Team Enrique thanked the fans' support and wrote: "Thank you to all the fans for your concern and good wishes. Enrique is getting the help he needs and we hope he will be totally fine. Will keep you posted and appreciate all your wishes and prayers."

The concert in Tijuana, which saw an estimate of 12,000 audience members, was a part of the Spanish musician's Sex and Love World Tour, E! News reported. Iglesias is still set to perform a show in Mexico City on June 3-4, with a break scheduled until August. Afterwards, the singer will head to Europe for more commitments.
