It tooke a while before NBC decided to premiere the third season of its highly anticipated "Hannibal" series on June 4, however, it should be worth the wait.

According to the International Business Times, the return of the series will be met with a new setting, and will draw more from the original novels than it did the previous episodes.

Reports from Entertainment Weekly claim that the TV drama will draw more from their source material: "Red Dragon", "Hannibal", and "Hannibal Rising", all of which were adapted into movies after the success of the first Hannibal Lecter story, "Silence of the Lambs." However, with no rights to the character Clarice Starling, who played a big role in the films, there were still some constraints as to the development of the series.

In a plot synopsis printed by Screen Crush, it seems that Dr. Hannibal Lecter, on the run from the FBI, will be taking his conquests to Europe in the third season. However, the cannibal doctor will be switching his suits for leather jackets, and he's rocking the motorcyle gangster look.

The synopsis for the first episode of the new season read:

"HANNIBAL IS ON THE RUN - EDDIE IZZARD AND ZACHARY QUINTO GUEST STAR - Having successfully escaped FBI capture, Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving through the European landscape, with Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) in tow.But Dr. Lecter's old habits and opulent tastes are still on display as he settles into a new identity and life in Florence, Italy, working at the Palazzo Capponi museum. Glimpses into the past help inform his relationship with Bedelia, a pairing not clearly defined as friend or foe."

Another character to look forward to is Tooth Fairy, which will lead Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) to have to ask for help from his former psychiatrist to capture. As noted by IBT, in the source material, the Tooth Fairy kills families and has been doing so when Graham sniffed his trail in 2002's "Red Dragon."

With a different type of storytelling, what makes the third season of "Hannibal" better than the previous ones is the lack of constraints from the FBI procedures that dominated its storytelling. With Hannibal Lecter in Europe and without the FBI looking over his shoulder, the story has become richer and more complex.

"Hannibal" returns on the small screen on June 4, Thursday, at 10 PM on NBC.
